FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HART NAMED TO VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM LEWISTON, Maine - Bates College junior guard Billy Hart of Haverhill, Mass., has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District I men's basketball second team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Hart was the second-leading scorer for the 13-11 Bobcats this season, averaging 13.3 points per game. He was named to all-tournament teams at the Equinox Classic and at the UMass-Boston Harbor Invitational, averaging 15 points per game in the two tournaments and hitting 13 of 22 3-point field goals. Hart helped the Bobcats to a school-record nine-game winning streak, leading the team in scoring twice during the streak and five times overall. In his next-to-last game of the season, Feb. 17, Hart became just the sixth junior in Bates College history to score 1,000 career points. He is the Bobcats' all-time leader in 3-point field goal percentage, hitting 39.7 percent from behind the arc (215-541). Hart's nine trifectas against Bowdoin College Feb. 2 were one shy of a school single-game record and tied for the third-highest single-game output in NCAA Division III play this season. A political science and education double major, Hart serves as a junior advisor. He is also a sports writer to the Bates Student and serves as a sideline reporter for student radio station WRBC-91.5 FM's football broadcasts. Hart is a 1998 graduate of Deerfield Academy.
