ANTHONY, KENOYER ENJOY SUCCESS IN 10,000 METERS

LEWISTON, Maine - Bates College runners Abigail Anthony of Jamestown, R.I., and Kate Kenoyer of Whitefield, Maine, have each enjoyed enormous success for the women's outdoor track and field team in the 10,000-meter run.

Anthony, a first-year runner, placed second in the event at the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championships April 30. Her runner-up time of 37:26.75 broke the second-oldest Bates outdoor track record by six seconds, surpassing Karen Palermo (Class of 1984). Anthony is 12th in the latest NCAA Division III rankings in the event, which would qualify her for her first-ever NCAA Championship berth at North Central College in Napierville, Ill., May 25-27. Anthony is also an All-New England performer for the Bates cross country team.

Kenoyer, a senior in her second season as a member of the track team, followed Anthony's performance at the NESCAC championships by winning the title in the 10,000 meters in consecutive meets. At the New England Division III meet May 6 at Colby College, Kenoyer won the event in 39:15.03, helping the Bobcats to a 14th-place finish, an improvement of 11 spots from 1999. On May 13 at Bowdoin College, Kenoyer added the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) title with a lifetime-best perfomance of 39:14.57. Bates finished the ECAC meet in fourth place, the Bobcats' highest finish ever at that meet. 

Anthony is a 1999 graduate of St. George's School. She is the daughter of G. Quentin and Emily Anthony, Jamestown, R.I.

Kenoyer is a 1996 graduate of Cony High School. She is the daughter of Ron and Pamela Kenoyer, Whitefield, Maine.
