MURPHY NAMED NEW ENGLAND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION COACH OF THE YEAR
King, McCrave, Dutille, McLaughlin Named to All-Star Teams

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College women's basketball coach Jim Murphy has been named New England Coach of the Year by the New England Women's Basketball Association, heading a list of five post-season honorees for the Bobcats.

Murphy also earned his second Coach of the Year award from the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA). He has coached the Bobcats to a 22-3 mark, setting a school record for wins in a season, including a perfect 10-0 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) games. The team is on a 10-game winning streak, the longest in school history. The Bobcats extended that winning streak on March 7 with a 71-67 win over Salem State College in the second round of the NCAA tournament, the team's first-ever NCAA win.

Murphy is a Portland native and a 1965 graduate of Portland High School, where he was a football stand-out. A 1969 Bates graduate, Murphy played quarterback, and his 22 wins are the most ever by a Bates QB.

Sophomore forward Emily King of Lebanon, N.H., was named first-team All-New England by NEWBA, All-State and All-NESCAC. King leads the Bobcats in scoring (17.4 points per game) and shooting percentage (44.6 percent) and is second in rebounding (7.9 rebounds per game). She scored a game-high 24 points in the NCAA win over Salem State, hitting 12 of 23 shots from the floor and grabbing two rebounds on missed free-throws in the final seconds.

Junior co-captain Colleen McCrave of Walpole, Mass., was named first team All-State and second-team All-NESCAC for the second straight season. McCrave, a 5-4 guard, leads the team in assists (6.8 apg) and steals (5.2 spg) this season, ranking her among the top 10 in the NCAA in both categories. She also averages 6.9 rebounds and 9.2 points per game. McCrave is Bates' all-time leader in steals (441) and assists (403).

First-year center Katy Dutille of Lebanon, N.H., and first-year forward Kate McLaughlin of Laconia, N.H., were named to the MWBCA All-Rookie team. Dutille is the third-leading scorer on the team at 13.4 points per game and the Bobcats' top rebounder, averaging eight per game. She was named ECAC Player and Rookie of the Week in a two-week span towards the end of the season. McLaughlin is the the team's fourth-leading scorer at 11.4 points per game and is third on the Bobcats in rebounding with 7.5 per game. Her 22 rebounds in a double-overtime win against rival Colby College earlier this season were the most in a single game in more than three years.
