DUTILLE, KING EARN WEEKLY AWARDS FOR STELLAR HOOPS PLAY
LEWISTON, Maine -- First-year center Katy Dutille and
sophomore forward Emily King, both of Lebanon, N.H., have
garnered numerous accolades for the Bates College women's basketball team
for their play the week of Feb. 15.
The 17-3 Bobcats are ranked second in the NCAA Division III
Northeast region poll and in the New England Women's Basketball
Association (NEWBA) coaches poll. Last week they defeated St. Joseph's
College (Maine), 78-54 on Feb. 11. In a key pair of games over the
weekend, the Bobcats, then ranked No. 6 by the NCAA and No. 4 by NEWBA
defeated Williams College (No. 4 NCAA, No. 3 NEWBA), 72-67, and Middlebury
College, (No. 2 NCAA, No. 2 NEWBA), 77-71.
Dutille was named Rookie of the Week by NEWBA, the Eastern College
Athletic Conference (ECAC), and the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches
Association (MWBCA) and Player of the Week by the New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). She averaged 18.3 points and 9.7
rebounds for the Bobcats, while hitting 82 percent of her free throws (18
for 22).Her best game came against Williams, when she led all players with
27 points and 19 rebounds, both career highs. She also had two blocked
shots and two assists against the Ephs, while hitting eight straight free
throws over the final seven minutes. Dutille came back the next day and
scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds against Middlebury.
King was named Co-Player of the Week by the MWBCA and earned her
second ECAC Honor Roll nomination of the season. She averaged 19.3 points,
9.3 rebounds, two assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals per game for the
week. In the Bobcats' win over St. Joseph's, King scored 32 points, Bates'
highest single-game total
since January 1996. She also grabbed nine rebounds and had two steals and
two blocks in the game, while hitting 14 of 22 shots from the floor.
Against Williams, King had 13 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, three
blocks and two steals. King leads the Bobcats in scoring with 17.5 points
per game, the fourth best average in the NESCAC, and is tops in rebounding
with 7.6 boards per game, also among the top 10 in the conference.
Dutille is a 1997 graduate of Lebanon High School. She is
the daughter of Jim and Cindy Dutille. King is a 1996 graduate of
Lebanon High School. She is the daughter of John and Jody King.
