DUTILLE, JENSEN NAMED BATES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
LEWISTON, Maine -- A pair of first-year athletes from New
Hampshire, basketball center Katy Dutille of Lebanon and
freestyle swimmer Mike Jensen of Manchester have been named Bates
Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 18.
Dutille earns the honor along with being named Maine Women's
Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Rookie of the Week. The Bobcats
jumped from fourth to second in the MWBCA poll with three wins this week,
including two over arch-rival Colby College. Dutille averaged 13.7 points
and 8.7 rebounds in the three games, including 21 points and 12 rebounds,
both career highs, in a 79-72 double-overtime win over the White Mules
Jan. 16. Ten of Dutille's 21 points came in the two extra periods,
including her first career three-pointer.
Jensen has established two Bates records in his first three
collegiate swim meets. In the season opener, Jensen and fellow first-years
Miles Cobb of Bethesda, Md., and David Blaney of Bar Harbor, Maine, along
with sophomore Paul Urbancyzk of Washington, D.C, established a Tarbell
pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.79 against
Clark University. On Jan. 17, Jensen and mates again won the 200-free
relay, while Jensen set a school record by winning the 1000-yard freestyle
in 10:29.44, breaking one of the two oldest school swimming records, set
in 1989. Jensen also won the 500 free with a time of 5:01.38. He scored 29
points for the Bobcats who defeated Babson College, 126-115, to raise
their record to 2-2 this season.
Dutille is a 1997 graduate of Lebanon High School. Jensen is a 1997 graduate of Manchester High School West.
