LUNDMAN, MCCRAVE NAMED TO ALL-NESCAC WOMEN'S SOCCER
TEAM
LEWISTON, Maine -- Junior fullback Julie Lundman of Worthington, Ohio, and
junior forward Colleen McCrave of Walpole, Mass., have been
named to the 1997 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
All-Conference women's soccer team.
Lundman was the Bobcats' top defensive player this season, marking
the opponents' top scoring threat. She scored two goals, including the
game-winner in the Bobcats' 2-0 win over Connecticut College, in which
Lundman marked the leading scorer in the NESCAC, holding her scoreless.
Lundman was named team most valuable player at the end of the season. "We
could count on Julie, day in and day out," Bates head coach Jim Murphy
said. "She was always vocal, spurring on her teammates. Julie also has the
ability to mark her opponents right out of the game."
McCrave, an All-New England first-team selection a year ago, joins
Lundman on the All-Conference second team this year. McCrave is the team's
top playmaker, scoring four goals and six assists for 14 points. She led
the team in assists for the second straight year. "Colleen is one of the
most gutsy athletes I've ever seen," Murphy said. "She was injured for
part of the season, but never missed a game and was still good enough to
earn this honor."
Bates finished its regular season with a 9-5 record, earning a
second straight berth in the NCAA Division III women's soccer tournament.
They hosted a first-round game, losing, 1-0, in double overtime to
in-state foe Colby College.
Lundman is a 1995 graduate of Thomas Worthington High School. McCrave is
a 1995 graduate of Walpole High School.
