BRUNERO WINS SOUTHERN MAINE INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College sophomore golfer Nick Brunero of West Warwick, R.I., earned his first collegiate victory this weekend, shooting a one under-par 70 to take the University of Southern Maine Invitational title.
The round of 70, shot at Gorham Country Club, was Brunero's best of the season. He won the tournament by three strokes over Ben Goodall of Southern Maine. The Bobcats had their best team finish of the season at the meet, taking second place with a score of 307, one stroke behind Thomas College.
Brunero's previous best was a third-place 78 in the season's first meet, the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Thomas College in Waterville. Brunero has been the top scorer on the team at one other tournament, the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championships, where he shot a two-day score of 161 (80-81), good for a tie for 11th place.
Brunero is a 1996 graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School.
