HAGSTROM NAMED NESCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College sophomore Kate Hagstrom of Portola, Calif., has been named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 1.

Hagstrom, a setter, earned All-State and All-Tournament honors for the second-straight year. In 10 games over the course of the three matches, she averaged 10.5 assists and 3.7 digs per game. She also recorded 17 service aces, br inging her season total to 119, breaking her own school record of 97, set last season. With an average of 1.11 aces per game, Hagstrom has been ranked among the top five in the nation in the NCAA Division III all season.

Hagstrom led the Bobcats to the State of Maine Invitational championship for the first time since 1993. The Bobcats defeated the host University of Maine-Farmington in the first round, 3-0, and NESCAC rivals Bowdoin College, 3-0, and Colby College, 3-1, in the semifinals and finals. It was Bates's second tournament win of the season. The Bobcats are 21-10 this season, the most wins by a Bobcat team since 1995.

Hagstrom is a 1997 graduate of Portola Jr./Sr. High School She is the daughter of Jerrold and Julia Hagstrom, Jacksonville, Ore.
