COULIE SELECTED BY ANAHEIM IN NINTH ROUND OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL AMATEUR DRAFT

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College center fielder Jason Coulie of Manchester, N.H., has been selected in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft. Coulie was taken by the Anaheim Angels with the 260th overall selection in the draft.

'00Coulie, a four-year letter-winner, is Bates' all-time leader in hits (123), home runs (21) and total bases (213), while ranking in the top three in five other offensive categories. He is a two-time All-Conference selection in baseball by the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and a second-team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) selection in 2000. He was also an All-NESCAC wide receiver for the Bobcat football team and is a member of two school-record relay teams as a member of the track and field teams. Coulie graduated from Bates May 29 with a bachelor of science degree in English.

Coulie was the fourth Division III player taken in the draft and the fifth from New England to be chosen. The draft consists of 50 rounds with as many as 1,500 players selected.
