HASTINGS, MCCRAVE NAMED WINTER BATES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

LEWISTON, Maine -- First-year diver Andrew Hastings of Weston, Mass., and senior women's basketball player Colleen McCrave of Walpole, Mass., have been named the first winter season Bates Athletes of the Week.

Hastings met the NCAA qualifying standards in both the one- and three meter diving events in his first collegiate meet when the Bobcats defeated Clark University, 171-71, on Nov. 21. Hastings scored a 270.1 in the 1-meter event and missed the school record in the 3-meters by less than five points with a score of 277.80. He needs to exceed the qualifying marks of 265 in the one-meter and 275 in the three-meter once more before the end of the season to earn a berth at the NCAA Championships.

McCrave was named most valuable player at the Wheaton College Tip-Off Tournament Nov. 20-21 in Norton, Mass. She led the Bobcats to victories over Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute, 81-58, in the first round, and over Wheaton College, 55-43, in the title game. Though she only averaged four points per game in the tournament, McCrave's 18 steals and 16 assists were critical in the Bobcats' victories. More recenty, McCrave was also named a first-team All New England selection in women's soccer for the first time in her career. She is the Bobcats all-time leader in assists in both soccer and women's basketball, and is also on pace to become the career leader in steals among all NCAA Division III women.
