FICKS, TRICKETT NAMED BATES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
LEWISTON, Maine -- Field hockey goalkeeper Peggy Ficks of
Washington, Conn., and men's soccer forward Eric Trickett of
Windham, N.H., have been named Bates Athletes of the Week for the
week ending Oct. 18.
Ficks, a sophomore, led the field hockey team to a 2-0 week by
posting a pair of shutouts. In a night game played in Boston on Oct. 13,
Ficks made four saves as the Bobcats defeated Simmons College, 2-0. On
Homecoming weekend Oct. 17, Ficks made eight saves as Bates defeated New
England College, 2-0. She now has three shutouts this season and six for
her career.
The Bobcats have won three straight games, bringing their record
to 4-5. Their win over New England College, ranked fifth in the NCAA New
England West region at the time, was Bates' first over a ranked team this
year.
Trickett,
a senior tri-captain, scored seven points last week for
the men's soccer team in a 2-0 week. He notched his second career
multiple-goal game in the Bobcats' 4-2 win over Husson College Oct. 14. In
a 3-0 win over Springfield College on Oct. 17, Trickett had his
team-leading sixth assist of the season on Bates' first goal in the 62nd
minute of play, then added an insurance goal of his own in the 84th
minute.
Bates' record is 5-3, having won four of their last five games.
The Bobcats were tied for ninth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches
Association of America Northeast Region poll, their first ranking of the
season.
