ADAMS, MARSHALL NAMED BATES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
In a quadrangular meet at Colby College on April 18,Adams placed second and qualified for the NCAA Division III national outdoor track and field championships in the hammer throw with a heave of 175 feet, five inches, exceeding the automatic qualifying standard by 11 inches. Adams also finished second in the discus with a throw of 149 feet, 10 inches, topping his previous personal best by eight feet and missing the NCAA provisional qualifying mark by five feet. Adams earned All-America honors in the 35-pound weight throw in the indoor track season. He will travel to the outdoor national championships May 21 to 24 in St. Paul, Minn.
Marshall is the leading hitter for the Bates College softball team. She leads the team in hitting with a .433 average (13-30) and is ranked eighth among New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) statistical leaders. In the Bobcats' 2-2 week, Marshall had six hits in 11 at bats, (.545) scoring two runs. After going hitless in the season opener, she has hit in nine straight games. At one point this season, she reached base in 12 consecutive plate appearances. The Bobcats are 5-5 this season, including a perfect 5-0 at home.
Adams is a 1996 graduate of Dover High School. Marshall is a 1996 graduate of Hopkinton High School.
