BLOOMFIELD, COULIE NAMED BATES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Bloomfield was twice honored by her teammates as defensive player of the game in the Bobcats' 1-1 weekend. After the Bobcats fell behind 6-0 after 15 minutes April 12 against Connecticut College, Bloomfield held the Camels to just two goals over the final 45 minutes, including a 30-minute scoreless stretch, as Bates rallied to win, 9-8. She equaled her season high with 16 saves, 10 in the second half, including four on free-position shots. Bates outscored Connecticut College, 5-1, in the second half. The day before against Trinity College, the second-ranked team in the nation, she helped keep the Bobcats close for much of the first half. The game was tied 3-3 with 10 minutes remaining before halftime. Though Bates eventually lost 15-4, Bloomfield's 16 saves kept the game within reach early. For the season, her goals-against average is 10.86 and her save percentage is .563.
Coulie is the top hitter in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), hitting .516 for the season (18-35). In the opening game of an April 11 doubleheader with Thomas College, which Bates lost 8-5, Coulie was 2-4 with one RBI and a stolen base. In the second game, he reached base in all four plate appearances, batting 3-3 with a walk, a triple, a home run, a stolen base, three RBI and four runs scored. For the season, he leads the team in several offensive categories, including batting average (.514), RBI (14), runs scored (12), extra-base hits (8) and is tied for first in home runs (4). His home run total is the most by a Bates player since 1990. The Bobcats face Colby-Sawyer College on April 15.
