Maine-Presque Isle ns 10.St. Joseph's ns 11.Maine-Machias ns DANAHY, MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TAKE MAINE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Bates junior Mike Danahy (South Windsor, Conn.) became the third different Bates harrier to win the individual State of Maine Championship in as many years, but the team result was the same, as the Bobcats topped their nearest rival by 34 points en route to their third straight team title. Danahy finished with a time of 26:38, 12 seconds ahead of second place finisher Mike Waugh of Maine-Presque Isle. Bates junior Matt Twiest (Albuquerque, N.M.), the 1996 State champion, placed third in 27:07, joining Danahy on the All-State team. The Bobcats clinched the title by taking eighth through 11th places. Junior Steve Dutton (Londonderry, N.H.), junior Brendan Hahesy (Melrose , Mass.), sophomore Steve Mague (Londonderry N.H.) and junior John McGrath (Merrimac, N.H.) each finished with 31 seconds of each other to clinch the title for the Bobcats.
