Johnson State N/S WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bates College men's cross country team solidified their Top 20 ranking in the most recent College Cross Coaches' Assocation poll with a second-place finish at the Williams Invitational. The Bobcats were led for the second week in a row by senior Mike Danahy (So. Windsor, Conn.), who earned his second meet championship of the season. He set a course record at the Mount Greylock Regional High School course with a time of 26:42, 18 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from Williams. Bates senior Matt Twiest (Albuquerque, N.M.) placed third with a time of 27:05. Williams, the No. 10 team in the nation, took the next four spots, good enough to earn the win. But the next four Bates finishers, senior Brendan Hahesy (Melrose, Mass.), sophomore Justin Bates (Abbott, Maine), senior John McGrath (Merrimack, N.H.) and tri-captain Steve Dutton (Londonderry, N.H.) helped the Bobcats take finish by placing in the top 20. Bates' 47 points were well ahead of third-place St. Lawrence University's 78. The Saints are ranked 21st in the nation, right behind the Bobcats.
