BOBCATS TAKE THIRD AT STATE MEET

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates men's cross country team took third place for the second week in a row, finishing with 64 points, behind CBB rivals Bowdoin (28) and Colby (52) in the State of Maine Championships at Bowdoin.

Junior Justin Easter (Jay, Maine) was the Bobcats' top finisher. Easter earned All-State honors by placing second overall with a time of 25:30, eight seconds behind winner Stephen Allison of Bowdoin. Coach Al Fereshetian's crop of first-year runners ran in a tight pack as Michael Downing (Gorham, Maine), Joel Anderson (New Brighton, Minn.), Robert Gomez (Waldoboro, Maine) and Andrius Staisiunas (Panevezys, Lithuania) finished five seconds apart (27:09 to 27:14) and placed 14th through 17th.
