NESCAC Championships BOBCATS TAKE FIFTH AT NESCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS BRUNSWICK, Maine The Bates men's cross country team improved one spot from a year ago, taking fifth at New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championships. The Bobcats finished where their New England ranking places them in the conference and includes a win over Colby, a team that had topped the Bobcats three weeks earlier on the same course at the State of Maine championships. Junior Justin Easter (Jay, Maine) was the Bobcats' top finishe for the fourth time this season. Easter placed fourth overall with a time of 25:14 to earn his first career All-NESCAC honor. Junior Malcolm Gray (Bronxville, N.Y.) had his best race since finishing fourth in the Bobcats' first race of the season. Gray placed 28th with a time of 26:17. First-year runner Michael Downing (Gorham, Maine) was next for the Bobcats in 32nd place in 26:25, while classmates Andrius Staisiunas (Panevezys, Lithuania) and Robert Gomez (Waldoboro, Maine) were 40th and 48th overall.
