BATES MEN TAKE SECOND AT TUFTS
Bobcats Capture Five of Six Field Events

MEDFORD, Mass. - Behind the strength of victories in five of the six field events, plus a pair of distance wins, the Bates College men's track and field team placed second in a five-team field in a Quad Cup meet hosted by Tufts University. The host Jumbos won the meet with 207 points, followed by Bates (181), Ithaca College (117), Colby College (77) and Worcester State College (23)

The Bobcat seniors dominated the field events, led by thrower Lucas Adams (Nottingham, N.H.), who captured the 35-pound weight throw, remaining undefeated in that event this season, and the shot put. Jason Coulie (Manchester, N.H.) took home honors in the long jump while also placing fourth in the 55-meter dash and eighth in the 200 meters. Former NCAA qualifier Kevin Stroman (New York, N.Y.) took the triple jump, while senior captain Adam Thompson (South Portland, Maine) won the pole vault.

Bates also got wins from senior All-Americans Matt Twiest (Albuquerque, N.M) in the 1,500-meter run and Mike Danahy (So. Windsor, Conn.) in the 3,000, who also anchored the distance medley relay to victory. Classmate John McGrath (Merrimack, N.H.) was the Bobcats final winner of the day, capturing the 600-meter run.
