MEDFORD, Mass. — In one of the largest fields the Bobcats will see before the championship season, the men's track and field team took third of 13 teams at the Tufts Co-Ed Invitational. The Bobcats had two winners and a handful of other top-three finishes.

Senior Jaime Sawler (Stratham, N.H.) remained undefeated in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 57 feet, 1.5 inches. Classmate Jesse Carney (Brunswick, Maine) had his best career finish in the weight throw, placing second with a heave of 48-0.75. Bates' other winner was junior Matt Ondra (New Tripoli, Pa.), who won the pole vault with a leap of 13-3. Two Bobcats finished second in running events, junior Steven Gresham (Milton, Mass.) in the 500-meter dash and first-year Michael Downing (Gorham, Maine) in the 1,500. First-year classmates Joel Anderson (New Brighton, Minn.) and Andruis Staisiunas (Pasznevys, Lithuania) each took third place in the 5,000 and 800, respectively.
