State of Maine Championships BATES MEN WIN STATE OUTDOOR TITLE WATERVILLE, Maine The Bates College men's track and field team won the State of Maine championships today, their first since 1999. The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead but rival Bowdoin fought back to take a three point lead heading into the final event. The Bates discus squad helped take the championship, scoring 25 points to secure the victory. Senior Jaime Sawler(Stratham, N.H.) won two events the discus, with classmates Jesse Carney(Brunswick, Maine) and Greg Hurley(Arlington, Mass.) taking second and third, while Jeff Davis () finished sixth. Sawler also won the hammer throw and placed second in the shot put to earn the Toottell Award as the outstanding field event performer at the meet.
