Bates vs. USM and Colby
at Lewiston, Maine

BATES COED INVITATIONAL

LEWISTON, Maine —Bates hosted its second straight meet, with in-state rivals Southern Maine and Colby coming to town on April 13-14. The Bobcats won the meet with 172 points, ahead of the Mules with 124 and the Huskies with 74.

Bates won 12 events, headed by senior Jaime Sawler (Stratham, N.H.), who took three of the four throwing events. He won the hammer (185-10), the discus (137-4) and the shot put (44-0). First-year Adam Soule (So. Portland, Maine) was also a multiple winner, taking the 110-meter hurdles (16.45) and the 400-meter hurdles (59.12). Classmate Andrius Staisiunas (Panevezys, Lithuania) took the 800-meter run going away in 1:57.06, four seconds ahead of the next competitor.

Junior Justin Easter (Jay, Maine) captured the 5,000 in 15:31.13, just ahead of rookie Joel Anderson (New Brighton, Minn.). Bates had two other winners in the field events, senior Jesse Carney (Brunswick, Maine) took the high jump and junior Matt Ondra (New Tripoli, Pa.) won the pole vault. First-year Joe Northrup (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) captured the meet's only two-day event, the decathlon, with a score of 5433. Bates also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
