SAWLER WINS ECAC WEIGHT

MEDFORD, Mass. — Senior Jaime Sawler (Stratham, N.H.) remained undefeated in the 35-pound weight throw this season, leading a group of three scorers in the event as the Bobcats finished tied for 13th out of 46 scoring teams at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships at Tufts University today.

Sawler won the weight throw with a heave of 61 feet, 5.75 inches, a personal best that solidifies his second seed headed into the NCAA championships next week. He also set an ECAC Championships and Tufts facility record in the process. Sawler's classmates Greg Hurley (Arlington, Mass.) and Jesse Carney (Brunswick, Maine) also placed in the event, taking sixth and seventh respectively. Carney's throw of 51-9 met the NCAA provisional standard for the first time in his career.

First-year Andrius Staisiunas (Panevezys, Lithuania) also placed for the Bobcats. He finished seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.28. Staisiunas won his heat in the process.

The Bobcats also finished seventh in the distance medley relay. The four runners were junior Malcolm Gray (Bronxville, N.Y.), junior Stephen Gresham (Milton, Mass.), Staisiunas and rookie Michael Downing (Gorham, Maine). Their time of 10:14.04 did not improve their standing for the NCAA championships.
