Bates 6, Coast Guard 1

The Bates College men's tennis team had a relatively easy time in their season opener, defeating the United States Coast Guard Academy, 6-1. The Bobcats (1-0) did not drop a set in the match against the Bears (0-2). Their only loss came at No. 2 singles, where first-year player Milko Todorov (Sofia, Bulgaria) won the first set, 6-1, but had to retire during the first game of the second set when he injured his knee. Senior captain Lonnie Klein (Riverdale, N.Y.) played well at No. 1, taking a first set tie-breaker, 7-1, and winning the second set 6-3.
