The Bobcats (9-5-1) got on the board first in the 23rd minute when Bates senior back Ted Martin (Excelsior, Minn.) put an indirect kick from outside the box to the head of junior midfielder Bryan Stevens (Southwick, Mass.), who knocked it over the outstretched arms of Tufts junior goalkeeper Steve McDermid (Shorewood, Minn.). The Jumbos (10-4-1) evened the game just under 10 minutes later when first-year midfielder Garrett Dale (Upper Montclair, N.J.) poked home a rebound after a corner kick, snapping Bates' streak of 482 scoreless minutes. Tufts scored the game-winning goal with less than three minutes to go in the first half when first-year forward Matt McGregor (Little Compton, R.I.) blasted a perfect feed from sophomore Brad Stitchberry (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) past Bates keeper Dan Spector (Framingham, Mass.). The Jumbos added an insurance goal in the 87th minute when senior forward Matt Adler (Princeton, N.J.) scored his 10th goal of the season, deflecting a shot off a Bates defender. The Jumbos will face top-seeded Middlebury College, a 6-0 winner over Gordon College, in the semifinals. Bates, who sees their five-game winning streak end, concludes its season in the ECACs at the hands of Tufts for the second-straight year.
