NO. 9 BOBCATS DROP 3-2 OVERTIME DECISION TO NO. 7 SPRINGFIELD

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Bates College men's soccer team played their fourth overtime contest of the season, dropping a 3-2 decision to the host Springfield College Pride.

The afternoon started well for the Bobcats (4-4-1), as senior Andy Apstein (Waban, Mass.) scored his fourth goals of the season less than three minutes into the contest. Apstein extended the lead to two with his second goal of the afternoon in the 37th minute. The Pride (10-3) cut the lead in half shortly after the start of the second half and were awarded a penalty kick in the 89th minute to tie the game. After a scoreless first overtime period, the hosts notched the game-winner 1:39 into the second overtime.

The Bobcats are now 1-2-1 in overtime this season. With two goals and four points, Apstein ties Bruce Peterson '65 for third on the all-time goal-scoring list at Bates with 22 and second on the all-time point scoring list with 60 (22 G-16 A-60 P). With five games left in the season, Apstein is within striking distance of Dieudonne Ngnoumen '71 for second on the goal-scoring list (25 goals) and possibly Breck Taber '96 for first on the all-time assist list (23 assists). Bates' all-time goal and points leader is Bob Lanz '65 (39 G-3 A-81 P).

The Bobcats next take the field Oct. 23 against Connecticut College.
