BATES MEN'S SOCCER RECORDS SIXTH SHUTOUT OF SEASON, 3-0, OVER CONN COLLEGE NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Bates College men's soccer team scored three goals in a five-minute span today en route to a 3-0 defeat of host Connecticut College. First-year forward Brian Luoma (Virginia Beach, Va.) opened up the scoring with his team-leading seventh goal of the season midway through the first half. Luoma's goal opened up the floodgates, as classmate Mike Masi (York, Maine) tallied three minutes later, converting a pass from senior forward Andy Apstein (Waban, Mass.). The score was Masi's first collegiate goal. He then picked up his first college assist 1:19 later when he found junior midfielder Chris Sporcic (Stratham, N.H.) for the final goal of the contest. With five saves, sophomore goalkeeper Dan Spector (Framingham, Mass.) notched his sixth shutout of the season, tying Bates' single-season record. Jay Ladieu '94 last achieved the feat in 1992. Zach Roth made seven saves in the Camels' losing effort.
