MEN’S SOCCER Weekly Release #3 - Sept. 25, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Notes: Amherst senior Mike Wohl (Northampton, Mass.) netted both goals during a 2-1 double-overtime victory at Salve Regina on Sunday. Earlier in the week, Wohl assisted on the lone goal during a 1-0 win at MIT on Wednesday. Wohl, who had two game-winners for all of last season, is among the NESCAC leaders with two through four games this season...Bowdoin’s Nick Figueiredo and Hugh Fleming scored two goals apiece as Bowdoin defeated Southern Maine on Tuesday 4-0...Colby rookie midfielder James Westhafer (Malvern, Pa.) made his first collegiate goal count, scor-ing with just 1:10 left in Saturday’s contest at Trinity, lifting the Mules to a 1-0 win in the process...Connecticut College sophomore goalkeeper Ted Lane (Portland, Ore.) reg-istered a miniscule 0.42 goals against average with eight saves and one shutout dur-ing 212 minutes of work last week. During Wednesday’s scoreless tie with Coast Guard, Lane made a total of four saves. It was the second shutout in as many years against the Bears for Lane, who has not allowed a goal in 200 minutes between the posts during the Whale Cup series...Middlebury sophomore forward Casey Ftorek (Wolfeboro, N.H.) netted three goals during a pair of games for the Panthers last week. Ftorek currently leads the NESCAC in goals this season with eight through six games (1.33 per game), while averaging a league-best 3.67 points per game (8-6- 22)...Wesleyan senior back Jared Ashe (Stamford, Conn.) scored his second game- winner of the season on Saturday, putting home a shot with 44 seconds remaining at Middlebury. The tally ended a nine-game losing streak for the Cardinals against the Panthers that dated back to 1996. Ashe was the backbone of the Cardinals’ defense during a 3-0 week, playing in all 270 minutes. Junior Sam Griswold found his name on the score sheet in all three games last week, collecting a goal and two assists...Williams earned a pair of 2-0 victories over WNEC and Bowdoin last week. Senior Patrick Huffer (Boulder, Colo.) scored a goal in both victories, while senior goalkeeper Jeff Castiglione (W. Hartford, Conn.) made three saves over the course of the two shutouts.
