BATES' LATE RALLY FALLS SHORT AGAINST NO. 1 WILLIAMS, 3-2

LEWISTON, Maine -- Three first-half goals proved to be enough for the top-ranked Williams College Ephs (8-0, 5-0 NESCAC), who held off a late Bates rally to gain a 3-2 win.

Williams scored early, with sophomore Alex Blake (Kingston, Jamaica) scoring from the six-yard line in the fourth minute to give the Ephs the lead. The Bobcats answered five minutes later when sophomore Bryan Luoma (Virginia Beach, Va.) took a pass from classmate Mike Masi (York, Maine) and scored on a set play. Blake added his second tally of the game in the 25th minute on a feed from teammate Josef Powell (St. Catherine, Jamaica), while the Ephs' scored the eventual game-winner with 10 minutes left in the second half as junior forward Eric Stein (Cincinnatti, Ohio) scored an unassisted goal. Bates battled back and earned a penalty kick in the second half. Senior captain Bryan Stevens (Southwick, Mass.) buried his second PK of the season with 15 minutes left in regulation, but the Bobcats were unable to tally an equalizer.

The Bobcats became just the second team to score more than one goal against Williams this season dspite the loss. Bobcat keeper Dan Spector (Framingham, Mass.) made 11 saves in the losing effort, while Williams' Ryan Spicer (Barrington, R.I.) made two stops.
