BATES MEN'S SOCCER OUTLASTS UNE IN OVERTIME, 2-1

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomore midfielder Mike Masi (York, Maine) scored his second goal of the season 1:35 into the second overtime period as the Bates College men's soccer team (5-4) defeated the host University of New England Nor'Easters (3-6).

Masi's goal spoiled a fine effort by UNE goalkeeper Ian Nagus (Ipswich, Mass.), who made 23 saves in the losing effort. The Nor'easters got on the board first in the contest, with junior Darby Higgins (Surry, Maine) scoring in the 11th minute. The Bobcats scored the equalizer six minutes later on senior captain Bryan Stevens's (Southwick, Mass.) team-leading fifth goal of the season on an assist from rookie Chris Urban (Monkton, Vt.).

Bates goalie Dan Spector (Framingham, Mass.) needed to make just one save in the win, as the Bobcats outshot UNE, 29-2.
