EARLY GOALS DOOM NO. 24 BOBCATS AGAINST TRINTY, 2-1

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Bates College men's soccer team (3-1, 1-1 NESCAC), ranked 24th in the nation, suffered their first loss of the season, as the host Trinity College Bantams (1-1-2, 1-1 NESCAC) used two early goals en route to a 2-1 win.

Trinity scored first just 3:40 into the contest, when rookie Tim Cross Marblehead, Mass.) intercepted a pass deep in the Bates zone and slipped it under Bates keeper Dan Spector (Framingham, Mass.). Trinity scored what proved to be the game-winner just under 10 minutes later when sophomore Morgan Sandell (Cohasset, Mass.) took a pass senior Steven Rovithus (Agawam, Mass.) and one-touched it past Spector. The Bobcats cut the deficit in half on a goal by senior captain Bryan Stevens (Southwick, Mass.) with 18:48 left on the clock, but were unable to convert on heavy pressure in the offensive zone thereafter.

Spector made eight saves in the loss, while Trinity's Tom Hambrick-Stowe (Lancaster, Pa.) had seven stops in the victory.
