Williams 14, Bates 13 (OT) WILLIAMS SQUEAKS BY BATES, 14-13, IN OVERTIME WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. The Bates College men's lacrosse team saw their five-game winning streak come to an end in overtime today as the Bobcats suffered a 14-13 loss at Williams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action. The Bobcats (5-2, 1-1 NESCAC) fell behind 7-2 after one period but cut the deficit to three goals at 9-6 before halftime. Williams (2-2, 1-1 NESCAC) took a 13-7 lead with three minutes left in the third quarter, but the Bobcat defense clamped down as Bates scored five unanswered goals, the last two by senior Jack Sandler(Hicksville, N.Y.), to send the contest into overtime for the second time this season. Classmate Matt Winterle (Duxbury, Mass.) had three assists in the run. A Bates penalty late in regulation gave the Ephs the ball to start the extra session. Williams turned the ball over twice, but junior attack Chris Hayes (Washington, D.C.) scored the game-winner 1:40 in on the Ephs' third possession. Bates sophomore Peter Fedullo (Williamson, N.Y.) led all scorers with four goals, while senior Jack Sandler (Hicksville, N.Y.) also recorded a hat trick. Hayes and Peter Thomson led Williams with three goals each, while Scott Goldberg had five assists and six goals to lead all players. Bates junior goalkeeper Mark Dobbyn (Warren, R.I.) made 14 stops for the Bobcats, while Matt Rade had nine saves for the Ephs to get the victory.
