LEWISTON, Maine — Senior attack Jack Sandler (Hicksville, N.Y.) scored an extra-man goal 20 seconds into the first overtime period to give the Bates College men's lacrosse team a 9-8 non-conference victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) Mariners today.

Bates got a penalty call on a push with six seconds remaining in regulation. The Bobcats held the ball to retain possession at the start of the extra session, setting up Sandler's goal on a feed from classmate Dave Frederick (W. Hartford, Conn.). It was Bates' first extra man conversion of the game.
