BATES LAX TOPS KINGS POINT, 14-5

Kings Point, N.Y. —The Bates College men's lacrosse team picked up their first road victory of the season today, downing the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 14-5, in Kings Pint, N.Y. today.

After taking a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, the Bobcats (2-1) scored four unanswered goals to start the second period, with fourh different players contributing to the streak. Junior Dave Frederick (West Hartford, Conn.) opened the stretch less than three minutes into the period, the first of his game-high three goals and five points on the afternoon. Classmate Patrick Gaughan (Duxbury, Mass.) added two goals and two assists, while rookie Peter Fedullo (Williamson, N.Y.) and junior Jack Sandler (Hicksville, N.Y.) each added two goals and an assist.

The goalkeeping tandem of sophomore Mark Dobbyn (Warren, R.I.) and rookie Peter Lovelace (Etna, N.H.) held their opponents to just five goals forthe second game in a row. Dobbyn making a career-high 14 saves. Rookie Ben Clements (Ligonier, Pa.) was key for Bates on the face-offs, winning 14 of the 15 he took as the Bobcats owned a 15-5 advantage overall.

Kings Point (2-5) was led by sophomore Jim Krantz (Downington, Pa.), who scored 2 goals and had 10 ground balls in the losing effort, while Mariner goalie Teague Murphy (Long Beach, N.Y.) made five saves.
