CONNECTICUT COLLEGE SHUTS DOWN BATES, 8-3

LEWISTON, Maine — Connecticut College senior Tim Boyd and sophomore Kevin Burke each notched hat tricks as the visiting Camels defeated the host Bates College Bobcats, 8-3, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's lacrosse action.

Bates (4-4, 1-3 NESCAC) fell behind early when Boyd and Burke each scored in the first five minutes of the contest. Bobcat sophomore midfielder Jeff Critchlow (Carlisle, Mass.) scored twice in a 39 second spanwith under four minutes remaining in the first to tie the game at two.

Connecticut College (3-4, 2-3 NESCAC) answered just 16 seconds after Critchlow scored his second goal when senior Rob Travieso (Baltimore Md.) assisted Boyd. The Camels scored one goal each in the second and third periods to take a 5-2 lead into the fourth. Critchlow converted a feed from junior Pat Gaughan (Duxbury, Mass.) 42 seconds into the fourth quarter to get the lead back to two goals, but Conn. College netted the final three goals of the game to pick up the victory.

Camel goalkeeper Tyler Volpe (Andover, Mass.) made 10 saves to pick up the win, while Bates' Mark Dobbyn (Warren, R.I.) had 13 stops in the losing effort.
