BATES SUCCUMBS TO BOWDOIN IN OVERTIME, 12-11
D'Addario Becomes All-Time Leading Scorer

(Taken from a Bowdoin College press release)

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Bowdoin College senior Nick Liebman (Denver, Colo.) took a feed from Alex Ellis (Brookline, Mass.) and stuck the game-winning shot with 3:12 remaining in overtime helping the Polar Bears defeat Bates on Wednesday afternoon, 12-11. The Polar Bears had to come back from a one-goal deficit with 22 ticks left in regulation to win their 14th-straight contest against Bates (7-4).

Bowdoin (9-2) jumped out to a 3-1 lead to start the game on a Josh Allen (Saugus, Mass.) goal with 6:32 left in the first. The Bobcats cut the lead to 3-2 before sophomore attack Jack Sandler (Hicksville, N.Y.) ripped three-straight goals to give Bates a 5-3 edge early in the second period. Jeff Neill (Key West, Fla.) trimmed the margin to 5-4 midway through the second, but rookie midfielder Jeff Critchlow (Carlisle, Mass.) netted his second of the game for a 6-4 Bobcat bulge at the halftime break.

Just 48 seconds into the third period, Bates senior attack Mike D'Addario (Locust Valley, N.Y.) scored to push the lead to 7-4. The goal was the 159th of D'Addario's career, pushing him past Shane Kokoruda (Class of 1995) for the all-time record at Bates. From that point on, Bowdoin came alive scoring four unanswered as Liebman and Nick Rutherford (Woodbridge, Conn.) tallied two each to give the Polar Bears an 8-7 lead.

Bowdoin would take a 9-7 lead on a Jason Dewar (Canaan, N.H.) goal with 13:06 remaining in the game, but Bates rallied with three-straight scores to take a 10-9 lead at the 8:51 mark. Liebman knotted the game at 10 apiece with 3:53 left and the two teams would battle back-and-forth until the final minute. With just 22 seconds left, Critchlow ripped what appeared to be the game-winner for a 11-10 Bates lead.

The ball went out-of-bounds off Bates after the face-off, giving Bowdoin one last chance with 16 seconds left. Ellis took the ball and raced straight to the cage and tallied the equalizer with 11 ticks left. The contest went into overtime, where a Bobcat turnover translated into a 2-on-1 break that was finished by Liebman. Will Casella (Sewickley, Pa.) made 14 saves for Bowdoin while Dave Pillsbury (Gill, Mass.) made 16 stops for the Bobcats.
