BATES TAKES SECOND IN VASSAR TIPOFF TOURNAMENT
Walker Named To All-Tournament Team

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- In the finals of the Vassar College Tip-Off Tournament, the Bates College men's basketball team could not overcome a Vassar team out to avenge a five-point loss from a year ago, as the host Brewers downed the Bobcats, 74-62.

The Bobcats took an early two-point lead, but Vassar repsonded with strong post play to take a 30-22 lead into the half. The Bobcats closed in again early in the second half, climbing to within two points at 36-34 with some tight defense. Vassar responded by hitting their next four shots, including three straight 3-pointers to go back up by 10 points, 46-36. Bates cut the lead to eight late but were unable to pull any closer.

The Bobcats were led in the title game by sophomore captains Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.), who had 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals, and Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.), who had a game-high 21 points, plus three rebounds. Walker, who averaged 17 points and five rebounds in the two games, earned All-Tournament honors. Click Here For Full Box Score
