BATES FALLS TO MAINE MARITIME, 69-67

(Taken from an MMA press release)

CASTINE, Maine-- Senior guard Matt Ketchen (Mt. Desert Island, Maine) drained a 3-point field goal and the front end of a one-and-one with less than a minute remaining in the contest to give the Maine Maritime Academy (5-3) a two-point victory, 69-67, over the visiting Bates Bobcats (3-5), the Mariners' first-ever.

Bates had a chance to tie the game with two seconds left on the clock when Rommel Padonou (Libreville, Gabon) caught a lob pass from an in-bounds play, but MMA point guard Corey Streams blocked the shot.

The Mariners had five players score in double figures, led by Peter Pitula's 18 points, including four-for-four from behind the arc. Bates was led by 16 points from sophomore guard Billy Hart (Haverhill, Mass.), including four 3-pointers, while Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) and Matt Moulis (Concord, N.H.) each had 12 points.
