WATERVILLE, Maine -- On 11 of 18 shooting and 32 points, Colby senior Ken Allen (Monson, Maine) led the Colby College men's basketball team to a 79-69 victory over Bates College Saturday afternoon in Wadsworth Gymnasium. The win improves Colby's record to 17-6 and a perfect 4-0 versus Bates and Bowdoin. The Bobcats finish the season at 7-17.

The 32 point total was Allen's second best performance this season. Sam Clark (Woolwich, Maine) and Pat Gallagher (Sanford, Maine) both contributed double-doubles to further the Mules' cause. Clark finished with 15 points and 11 boards, Gallagher with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Bates had four players in double figures, Matt LaPointe (Beverly, Mass.) and Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.) each with 16, Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) with 11 and Rommel Padonou (Libreville, Gabon) with 10.

Bates came out of the gates absolutely on fire hitting for six three's in the game's first ten plus minutes and taking a four-point advantage at 27-23. From there the Mules went on a 13-2 run over the next 4:30 capped by two baseline three's from Allen. The Bobcats clawed right back, holding the Mules scoreless over the last five minutes of the half and getting production from five different players on an 11-0 run that gave them back their four-point advantage.

Any momentum that Bates may have built up at the end of the first half was quickly dispelled by a 10-0 Colby run to open the second half. The Mules got five each from Allen and Clark over the first 5:35 of the second frame. Colby seemed to be in total control when the Bobcat's Billy Hart (Haverhill, Mass.) was whistled for a pushing foul as Colby sophomore Joe Gutierrez (Westbrook, Maine) hit a three from the top of the key and Gallagher converted the ensuing in-bounds pass completing a five-point trip for the Mules.

Bates was able to cut the lead to eight on a few occasions, but could get no closer as the Mules held on for the ten point victory.
