SCARBOROUGH, Maine — The Bates College golf team picked up its first win of the season at the 2001 University of Southern Maine Scramble. All five Bobcats combined in a scramble format to shoot a 56 at the Nonesuch Golf Club in Scarborough. In addition, sophomore Tom Hayden (Winchester, Mass.) won the tournament's closest to the pin contest on the sixth hole, coming with four feet, 11 inches of sinking his shot.
