After falling behind, 21-0, the Bobcats put together one of their best offensive drives of the season, going 72 yards in 12 plays, with three third-down conversions, including junior QB Matt Bazirgan's (Newbury, Mass.) one-yard touchdown score to pull to within 21-7. Bowdoin added two more touchdowns before the half to take a 35-7 lead into the lockerroom. The Bobcats opened the second half with another decisive drive, taking just 2:30 to go 75 yards in six plays. Bazirgan was four-for-four on the drive for three first downs, including a 29-yard scoring pass to junior Jason Coulie (Manchester, N.H.) to bring the Bobcats to within 35-14. Bowdoin got good field position on the ensuing 45-yard kickoff return, but junior linebacker Frost Hubbard (Walpole, Mass.) picked off a pass at the goal-line to thwart the drive. It was Hubbard's first pick of the season, but the Bobcats were unable to return to Bowdoin territory as the Polar Bears picked up the 49-14 win, denying Bates a chance at the CBB crown outright. If Colby knocks of Bowdoin Nov. 14, there will be a three-way tie for the CBB title.
