BATES BLANKS UMF, 2-0

Bates College senior goalkeeper Wendy Zimmerman (Denver, Colo.) made her first start of the season a big one, as the Bobcat (2-5) field hockey team shut out Maine-Farmington, 2-0.

The Bobcats started the scoring less than five minutes into the game when senior forward Amanda Schall (Chevy Chase, Md.) took the ball on a breakaway and fired a rocket from just inside the circle. In the second half, sophomore forward Abby Lenhart (Bethesda, Md.) converted a pass from first-year player Amanda Slocum (Rochester, N.Y.) to give Bates a two-goal cushion.

Zimmerman was tested in the second half, making six of her nine saves after the break to preserve the Bobcats' second shutout of the season.
