(Taken from a Plymouth State College press release) PLYMOUTH, N.H. - It was an unsuccessful homecoming for Bates College field hockey coach Wynn Hohlt Tuesday as Plymouth State College handed Bates a 1-0 defeat in a non-conference game at Arold Field. Hohlt, who coached PSC from 1992-97, made her first appearance in Plymouth since taking over the Bates program last summer. Panther freshman Danielle Cardin (South Hampton, N.H.) scored the only goal of the game, her second of the season, midway through the first half when she picked up a loose ball in the Bates goal mouth and knocked it home. The goal was unassisted and came with 23 minutes left in the opening half. The Panthers outshot the Bobcats 16-10 in the game. PSC goalie Chris Perruzzi (South Portland, Maine) made six saves to register her first shutout of the season and 13th of her career. Bates' keeper Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.) made 14 saves. Bates had an excellent chance to score late in the first half when a shot by senior Amanda Schall (Chevy Chase, Md.) got past Perruzzi, but PSC defender Sarah Dodge (Sanbornton, NH) was there to clear the ball away. Perruzzi also made a couple of nice saves in the closing minute to the game to preserve the shutout. Bates, 4-6, hosts Connecticut College Saturday at 11 a.m.
