Bowdoin College junior Johanna Babb (Camden, Maine/Camden-Rockport) scored two goals and assisted on a third, helping the Polar Bears down Bates on Wednesday afternoon, 3-0. The five-point afternoon was a career-high for Babb and helped Bowdoin spoil the coaching debut of Bates' new head coach Wynn Hohlt.

Bates (0-1) came out strong in the first half, but an early timeout by Bowdoin (2-0) turned the momentum in favor of the Polar Bears. First-year Allison Scaduto (Allenwood, N.J./Wall) ripped a shot from the top of the arc into the Bates net for her first collegiate goal - and what proved to be the game-winner - with 15 minutes left in the half. Babb set up the goal with a crisp pass from the wing.

Bowdoin was dominant in the opening minutes of the second frame as Babb tallied a pair of goals in the first 6:33. Sarah Roop (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) set up Babb for a quick one-timer for the second goal before Marian Curtis (Yarmouth, Maine/No. Yarmouth Acad.) dished out an assist on the games' final goal.

The Bobcats' biggest threat came with 24 minutes left in the game when they were awarded a penalty stroke, but Bowdoin goalie Dana Krueger (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) turned aside the bid to preserve her 13th career shutout and give Bowdoin its 13th-straight victory over Bates. Krueger ended with eight saves while Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn./Taft) made six stops in the losing effort.
