BATES FIELD HOCKEY POSTS FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN, 6-0, OVER FARMINGTON

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College field hockey team (5-2) won their fifth straight game today, 6-0, over the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers (4-4). The winning streak is Bates' longest since the 1985 season.

Bates got on the board just over seven minutes into the game when senior co-captain Kim Holzer (Adams, Mass.) connected with first-year forward Julia Price (Mansfield, Mass.). The Bobcats scored twice more before the end of the half, including Price's second of the game 1:02 before the intermission. Sophomore Kara Conceison (Watertown, Mass.) added a pair of goals in the second half, while first-year midfielder Kathrene Tiffany (Boston, Mass.) registered three second-half assists, one shy of the school record. Bates' six goals in the game marked their highest scoring output since a 6-0 win over Elms College in 1997.

Bates goalkeepers Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.) and Lindsay Gary (San Diego, Calif.) each made one save for the shutout, while UMF keeper Fawn Albert (Skowhegan, Maine) made 14 stops in the losing cause.
