TUFTS RALLY SPOILS FARRAR'S BIG DAY
West Paris native scores four goals, Jumbos five

LEWISTON, Maine -- Junior forward Johie Farrar (W. Paris, Maine) had one of the biggest days in school history, scoring four goals in the first half, but the Tufts University Jumbos scored three unanswered goals in the second half to escape with a 5-4 win.

Farrar opened the scoring with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, both on assists by senior Leslie Moser (Adamant, Vt.). Tufts answered with goals by juniors Dana Chivvis (New Canaan, Conn.) and Laura Hacker (Hollis, N.H.), the latter tying the game with 10:54 left in the first. Farrar then scored her next two goals just 33 seconds apart at 8:19 and 7:46 to return Bates' advantage to two goals at 4-2.

Tufts sliced the lead in half on a goal by senior Lindsay Lionetti (Stamford, Conn.) less than five minutes into the second half on an assist by Chivvis. Lionetti then returned the favor 10 minutes later as Chivvis tied the game at four with 21 minutes remaining in regulation. Lionetti then scored the game-winner with just 3:07 left on the clock to give Tufts its first win of the season.

Farrar's four goals give her a NESCAC-leading 11 for the season. Her output is the largest single-season total at Bates in the past 15 years. Farrar now has 24 goals and 51 points for her career, both in Bates' career top 10.

Bates dropped to 1-7, 1-4 in the NESCAC with the loss, while Tufts improved to 1-4, 1-2 NESCAC.
