Panther's Glessner records hat trick

LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore forward Char Glessner (Ipswich, Mass.) scored three of Middlebury College's goals and assisted the other as the Panthers (4-2, 4-0 NESCAC) hung on to defeat the host Bates College Bobcats (1-5, 1-3), 4-3, on Campus Ave. Field today.

Middlebury sophomore Missy Krempa (Johnstown, N.Y.) got the scoring started 20 minutes into the first half on an assist from Glessner, who doubled the lead on a penalty corner feed from junior Kate Perrine (Middlebury, Vt.) just three minutes later. The Panthers took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Bates opened the second half strong as sophomore Lori Jessup (Hatboro, Pa.) notched her first goal of the season on a feed from junior back Pippi Philp (Portsmouth, N.H.), cutting the lead in half less than two minutes in. Glessner added her second goal from Perrine seven minutes after than and finished the hat trick with 18 minutes left in the contest. Both second-half goals came off penalty corners.

Bates rallied in the final 15 minutes, as junior leading scorer Johie Farrar (W. Paris, Maine) converted a scramble in front of the net with an assist to sophomore Samara Khalique (W. Hartford, Conn.). Junior Julia Price (Mansfield, Mass.) closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with five seconds left on the clock.
