WESLEYAN PREVAILS IN EVENLY MATCHED CONTEST, 1-0, OVER BATES

LEWISTON, Maine -- In one of the most evenly matches contests of the season, the Wesleyan University Cardinals (9-3, 5-2 NESCAC) defeated the host Bates College Bobcats (6-5, 2-5 NESCAC), 1-0, on John Bertram Field.

Both sides took 18 shots at the goal and Bates held a slight 10-9 advantage in penalty corners. The lone goal in the contest came with just 8:27 left in regulation, when Wesleyan rookie attacker Jenna Flateman (Barre, Vt.) took a penalty corner feed from sophomore Sonya Behnke (Marblehead, Mass.) and blasted it past Bates goalkeeper Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.). Ficks made 11 saves in the contest, while Wesleyan senior Taryn Hutchins-Cabibi (Concord, N.H.) recorded just the third shutout against the Bobcats this season with 13 saves.

The Bobcats will try to get back on track tomorrow against nationally ranked Keene State, while Wesleyan travels to in-state rival Trinity on Wednesday.
