BATES FIELD HOCKEY STUNS NO. 13 KEENE STATE, 2-1

KEENE, N.H. -- The Bates College field hockey team (7-5) scored with less than a minute remaining in the final overtime period to upend the No. 13 team in the nation, host Keene State College (12-4), 2-1. The loss was the Owls' first loss at home since 1997, a span of 34 games.

All three goals in the game resulted from penalty corners. The Bobcats jumped out early, scoring in the first five minutes of the contest on a goal by junior Sarah Weatherbee (Walpole, Mass.). Keene answered 11 minutes later on the first career goal by rookie Nichole Dallas (Marlow, N.H.). Both defenses held strong until 34 seconds before the game was due for penalty strokes. Bates rookie Lori Jessup (Hatboro, Pa.) deflected home a penalty corner shot off the stick of sophomore Kathrene Tiffany (Boston, Mass.). Jessup leads the Bobcats with six goals this season.

Bates senior goalkeeper Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.) was stellar in goal, making 18 saves for the Bobcats. Keene's Lindsay Hamilton (Brattleboro, Vt.) had 12 stops in the losing effort.
