BATES DROPS SECOND STRAIGHT, 4-0, AT BOWDOIN
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Despite splitting time in both the offensive and defensive zones of the field, the Bates College field hockey team (2-2, 0-2 NESCAC) fell to rival Bowdoin College (4-1, 2-1) by a 4-0 score at Bowdoin today.
Bowdoin scored the game-winner less than two minutes into the contest when Sarah Banister (Stonington, Conn.) hit a shot off a penalty corner into the lower left-hand corner of the Bates net off assists from Allison Scaduto (Allenwood, N.J.) and Kristi Perine (Middlebury, Vt.). The lead would hold through the entire first half with the Polar Bears taking a 1-0 lead and a 4-0 advantage in shots into halftime.
The Polar Bears continued with their pressure in the second half and netted an insurance goal with 16 minutes left as Beth Sherman (So. Windsor, Conn.) took a pass from Jackie Templeton (Middlebury, Conn.) and flipped the ball past a sprawling Peggy Ficks (Washington, Conn.) for a 2-0 lead. Seven minutes later, a shot by Templeton bounced off the foot of a Bobcat defender and into the cage for a 3-0 cushion. Four minutes after that, Perine put the finishing touches on the 4-0 triumph as she tipped a shot into the Bates net off a dish from Banister.
The Bobcats will look for their first NESCAC win of the season Saturday against Trinity, while Bowdoin travels to Middlebury for another NESCAC showdown.
