Bates 12, Middlebury 12
The Bates College Bobcats (7-11-1) and Middlebury College Panthers
(8-12-1) were unable to decide their baseball game in regulation and were
called on account of darkness tied 12-12. The Bobcats jumped out with five
runs in the first inning, highlighted by sophomore 1B Drew Blicharz
(Rutland, Vt.), who hit his second grand slam in three games.
The Panthers scored three in the second and four in the third inning. The
big blow was a two-run by first-year DH Davin Wilfrid (Princeton, N.J.),
his sixth of the season. Bates tied the game 8-8 in the fourth inning on a
two-run single with the bases loaded by Blicharz and a sarifice fly by
first-year SS Christian Galligher (Mont Vernon, N.H.). Middlebury took a
four-run lead on a two-run double by junior 2B Ethan Mark (Edina, Minn.),
who scored on an error two batters later. The Bobcats scored twice in the
seventh and eighth innings to tie the game, but left the bases loaded
in the seventh and men on second and third in the eighth. Senior pitcher
Chris Snow (Tewksbury, Mass.) pitched his fifth complete game in seven
starts this season for the Bobcats, allowing six earned
runs and striking out ten. Blicharz led Bates hitters going 2-6 with 6
RBI, while junior 2B Scott McAuliffe (Concord, N.H.) scored three runs.
First-year 3B Chris Dickie (Weston, Mass.) was 4-6 with a
double, 2 runs and 2 RBI, while rookie pitcher Ben Bradford (Bedford,
